Reema's Story

It was a cold winter day, after a particularly crazy snow storm…

Since June, 2010, Mitul has not had more than 2 days off from his residency, so of course he has been very very busy.  On Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2010, he got out of work at around noon and he was looking at  a 6 day vacation (which by the way is the equivalent of a month for us non-Doctor folk ;) ). He had been bugging me to come into the city (Philly) the day before and I wasn’t sure because of the recent snow dump that happened on south jersey.

I took the train in to Philly and Mitul was supposed to pick me up from the train station.  He was late so of course I got cranky and got mad at him for being late.  Then I proceeded to be the biggest cranky pants for the next hour (sorry Mit).  For all who know Mitul, as I have mentioned in previous posts, he loves photography! He loves to take pictures, and recently he got a fancy schmancy SLR so he has been wanting to walk around the city to take some city shots.  What better time to do it, than when there is 12 inches of snow on the ground.  I have basically resigned myself the fact that if I am around when he is taking the pictures, he wants me to be in them.

So we parked somewhere in center city and he wanted to walk over to the Wanamaker building, in Macy’s where there was a Christmas lights and music show.  When we get there, there are like 300 people crammed into this area in the Macy’s ready to watch a show, high up on the wall.   This is what it looked like https://www.wanamakerorgan.com/xmas.php.  So as the show starts (mind you he wanted to see it), we are literally looking high up straining our necks, Mit says “hey I’m gonna go to the bathroom” at which time I proceeded to think, in typical cranky fashion “you wanted to see this not me”

He comes back like 10 minutes later and says “the sun is about to set and I want to get some good shots maybe we can come back at the next showing”

Me: (thinking): um ok. Whatever… cranky cranky cranky

Mit: Lets walk towards the art museum

Me (thinking):  ugh that’s so far and I’m so cold… ugh

As we are walking Mit sees a Christmas tree and he says “Lets get a shot in front of the tree” and motions for me to get in front of the tree.

Me: Ok

Him: Actually there is the Love statue, lets get a shot under there, we will ask someone to take a pic for us.

Me: Fine

When we get there, there is a group of people ahead of us taking forever! And I mean like seriously 10 minutes, to take a picture.  They would take a picture, then every person of the 6 person group would have to look at it, comment, analyze, discuss, and come up with more poses for the next picture.

Me (thinking): these people are slow, I’m cold.

Finally, they move and we are up.  He asks the guy behind us to take a pic of us and to just keep taking them.

We get under the statue and he gets down on one knee.  In the snow mind you.  At which time, I started crying and don’t really know what happened. He then told me to look in my pocket, where I found….

A taco bell sauce packet that said “Will you marry me” on it.

The "Packet"

A little bit of back story. I LOVE TACO BELL!  Like to the point, where one birthday, my friends tried to cater from them.  Hehe.  Every time Mit and I go there, I would say to him, with the “Will you marry me” packets in hand, “this is my dream proposal” half kidding and half… not really!

We here it was perfect because since I was crying and I couldn’t hear what he was saying, I got it from reading the packet!  Although, in all the craziness, I am not quite sure I said yes, you know with the crying and all.  I’m pretty sure I got a nod in there though.  I guess he will just have to propose to me again! (hehe).

While this was going on, Mitul’s sister, Mamta and good  friend Alex, who is an awesome photographer, popped out of nowhere to take pictures.  I was so happy, that I literally could not stop crying.  The one day I decided to wear my non-waterproof mascara.  (You know, I never thought I was a “cry when happy” kinda person, but I guess you learn something new everyday.

Me (thinking): !@#$%^&* Cranky no more!

We called our parents and families from there. We went home and had dinner with our parents, who were ecstatic.
